RainSoft won't ever get our business ...

Rain Soft complaint
We signed up for a water testing in exchange for a gift certificate from our local hardware store. We were promised it would only take 15 mins of our time and there would be no hard sales; only wanted to come in and test our water.

The appt was made for the next day at 5pm. At 8pm, after 3 hrs of badgering by the sales rep, we asked him to leave. I advised the store who sponsored the Rainsoft demo of our displeasure and suggested they stop pandering Rainsoft's services.

We also got the, "wouldn't let my dog drink your water" insult. Rainsoft has a great gimmick, but if it's so great, why do they try to ram it down your throat? Hmmmmmmm.........

Had a rep come to my house last night, appt set up through Home Depot..blah...blah...those of you who have been through it know the process. Our appt was at 7pm, rep did not leave until after 10pm. I must admit, I was pretty disgusted at our water quality and if we had the money my husband and I probably would have bought on the spot. However, times are tough and we were quoted over $5000 for this system. There was no way after we just bought new windows. By the way...we were almost duped out of the windows had we not done our research (after) signing a contract and found out we could get them cheaper from a different dealer (40 %) cheaper, so needless to say we stopped the whole process; luckily within the 3-day cancellation time.

Most people are not prepared to spend that kind of money right there on the spot which is why they come with that sales pitch of tonight you can get this great deal, but if you so no then you could be paying the higher price tomorrow. I appreciate the honest former Rainsoft rep for letting us know how we can save mucho dinero! I understand people are just trying to make a living, but I'm trying to save money so I can have a living!! So glad we said "NO", but have to admit, we have to do something about our water!!!!

I recently had an appointment for 7:00pm that was supposed to be about 15 minutes. At 10:00pm, I was still being hammered about the sale. The later it got, the more negative I became. I did not get my gift card either. DO NOT alow Home Depot to get your information or address for a water evaluation. The Rainsoft website is full of angry customers who have been burnt..

I just finished my Rainsoft presentation and was quite impressed, of course, that's how these sales pitches are designed--to impress the heck out of you so you'll fork over your life savings for something you NEVER thought about buying. I was impressed with the salesman, he was very nice and acommodating. I had my baby screaming in the living room and my son buggin him to show him how to make the water turn purple again. He was very nice and cool.

When I made the appointment though, I just thought my water was getting tested; I did not realize, nor was I told that the water tester was going to try and sell me something or that he worked for Rainsoft. If they had told me that on the phone, of course, I would have said NO WAY.

I think they got my info when I signed up for the Home Depot credit card.

The salesman was pretty good on time though and polite, he didn't try and pressure me but did give me the "tonight and tonight only" pitch. Still, I was not persuaded enough to go ahead because it just costs so much friggin' money. There are no miracle products out there and they are trying to sell a miracle product with miracle washing products that will miraculously save you hundreds if not thousands of dollars. Too good to be true, is what I felt about it, and now that I've done my research I see that I am right. INot only that, and I shared this with the salesman, times are tough all around economically. I just purchased my home a month ago and my funds are tight with the new bills and all. He pretended to understand.

In the end, I got a booklet for $10 worth of pre-clipped grocery coupons for a total of $500 in coupons. But, you have to mail in these "$10 certificates" to get $10 worth of coupons and redeeming the certificates for the coupons costs $2.00 per certificate for processing. But, they include coupons worth $2.00 in your order to make up for the processing costs. Or, you can start a pre-paid account so that you don't have to send in a $2.00 check with your certificate. WTF! I just want the dang grocery coupons!

Everything comes with a "catch" absolutely everything!!!

you are referring to the $4,000 5yr supply that they give you free and then charge $300 deal after you go through your supply?

so how exactly do you buy the different soap products for $200 - who is the mfg and where do you get it?

I too was contacted by Rainsoft via a Home Depot entry to win a free gas grill. I was told that I would receive a $20 gift card to Home Depot for allowing a rep to come & explain the Rain soft system. they were supposed to be here at 10:15 with a call one hour before to make sure I was home ... got a call a few minutes before 10 am and said that they made an error in scheduling and that they could come here around 11:30- noon. Then got a call back from the actual person who was coming to see that it was still okay to come , but that she would be here around 12- 12:30. I said that would be fine. She arrived at 1pm and the the 45 minute to 1 hour presentation, ended finally at 3 p.m when I said after numerous times I could not spend any more time. She used up a good deal of my paper towels and although she seemed pleasant for the most part, when I had to be a bit firmer & end the session & did not want to purchase & put myself in debt, she was pretty quiet. She knew nothing about the Home Depot $20 gift card & said that most likely they would send it to me. She asked to use my phone to call her supervisor before she was finally leaving & I said no that she couldn't use my phone. I needed to finally get on with what was left of the day. I must say the demo was impressive & would have loved to perhaps purchase one but not for $8000+ maybe $800? that alone would be a stretch in these tougher financial times. I am glad I did read some other horror stories here, because I must admit it looked like a wonderful system. I had no idea all of the problems others who unfortunately did purchase it have had. I guess as good as something is, if it is that great, the offers will still be there on another day & one should look at Consumer reports, better business ... it is a huge investment.

As a former rep I would like to expose the truth about Rainsoft. Their tanks are made from the same manufacturer of every other softener company, Fleck, and purchased for a couple hundred dollars then marked up to over $6000. Their soap package is awesome but can be purchased direct from the manufacturer for less than $200. Their pockets are deep and they don't give a crap if they are putting people in credit card debt at over 17% interest. It is a scam and you can buy an equal quality system for much much less. problem is that other new softener companies are marking up their system as well being that Rainsoft is setting the price. My advice is to find a mom and pop company and pay no more than $3000 for a softener and RO and leave off the carbon tank for sanitary reasons. Or use culligan.
